Charlottetown Islanders

Playoff schedule relelased

Keith Getson scored twice Saturday to lead the Charlottetown Islanders to a 5-2 win over the Halifax Mooseheads to close out the regular season.

"I've been waiting for a game like that for a while so it felt good," Getson said.

The second-year Islanders forward had four goals heading into Saturday's contest after not scoring in October, November and December.

"It boosts my confidence a ton," the Bridgewater, N.S., native said.

Head coach Jim Hulton said Getson is such a team-first player the whole bench was excited for him. The coach gave him some shifts late with the Islanders top offensive players in order to try and get him the hat trick.

"True to form he doesn't care," Hulton said. "He's sitting on two goals and what's he do, he dives in front of a shot rather than try and cheat. That sums up what Gettsy is all about and hopefully what our team is all about."

Bradley Kennedy, Kameron Kielly and Daniel Sprong (empty net) also scored for the home side at the Eastlink Centre. Dexter Weber and Oliver Cooper each had two assists while singles went to Samuel Blais, Luc Deschenes, Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Jonathan Duchesne, Filip Chlapik and Alexis Vanier.

Joel Bishop and Morgan Nauss scored for Halifax. Connor Moynihan, Cooper Jones, Maxime Fortier and Otto Somppi had assists.

Mason McDonald made 35 saves for the win while Eric Brassard stopped 32 shots in the loss. Charlottetown held period leads of 2-1 and 4-1.

Charlottetown finished the season 35-26-5-2 while Halifax was 21-39-7-1.

The Islanders will finish ninth and start the playoffs on the road against Rimouski. Summerside's Carson MacKinnon is a rookie forward with the Oceanic.

The teams split two games this season with Rimouski winning 1-0 in a shootout on home ice on Oct. 4 while the Isles won 3-1 on Jan. 9 at the Eastlink Centre.
