Murray records four assists in series-clinching win

KENSINGTON – The Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers are returning to the Island Junior Hockey League final.

The defending-champion Vipers defeated the Montague Maniacs 7-2 on Friday night to win the best-of-seven semifinal series 4-1. Kensington will face the winner of the semifinal series between the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings and the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros series. The Red Wings hold a 3-2 lead.

Before an estimated 350 fans at Community Gardens, Ryan Murray recorded four assists while Johnny Richards had two goals and a helper to lead the Vipers. Campbell Gallant (1-1), Parker Ronahan (1-1), Jordan Mayhew (1-1), Nick Bouchey and Jacob Stewart also scored while Ryan Kelly and Tyler Burton chipped in with helpers.

Shawn Corney and Alex Gallant replied for the Maniacs.

The Vipers held period leads of 4-2 and 5-2.

Winning goaltender was Grant Grady. Montague starting goaltender Matt Derry gave up three goals on 11 shots, and Pat St-Onge was beaten four times on 45 shots over the final 47:58.
