Pownal takes 2-0 lead in midget AAA semifinal with Mix-Isle
The Western Regals and the Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils brought the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs story closer to its conclusion on Tuesday.
The Regals beat the Charlottetown Brighton Construction Abbies 4-3 in double overtime to advance to the league final and Pownal shutout the Mid-Isle Matrix 2-0 and took a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five semifinal.
Game 3 is tonight, at 7:50 p.m., in Pownal.
Red Devils 2, Matrix 0
Colby Landrigan recorded the shutout while Colin Koughan and Dan Whalen scored second-period goals to lead the Red Devils to the road win in Cornwall.
Connor Gray, Noah Morrison and Grant Koughan contributed assists for the Red Devils.
Each team was assessed 13 minor penalties.
Regals 4, Abbies 3 (2OT)
In Alberton, Tyson Arsenault was the hero for Western, scoring 16:16 into the second overtime and giving the Regals a three-game sweep.
Brayden Handrahan, Alex Morrissey and Diego LeClair had the other Regals goals. Connor Morrissey chipped in two assists.
Gavin Hickey and Ryne MacIsaac (1-1) netted the Abbies markers in the first period while Tyler Hashmi potted the game-tying goal with seven minutes left in the third period.
Bronson Banks earned the win over Connor Campbell.
