Stavert records four points in road win

CAMPBELLTON, N.B. – The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals are back in first place.

Thomas Stavert had two goals and two assists to lead the Capitals to a 7-4 road win over the Campbellton Tigers on Friday night. That result, coupled with Dieppe’s 5-3 win in Woodstock, moved the Caps one point in front of the Slammers atop the Eastlink North Division and overall standings in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League).

Mitch Dempsey scored twice while Riley Whittingham (1-1), Jesse Annear and Evan Morrison added singles for the Caps, who are 28-12-1-1 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses). Sam LeBlanc and Joey Colatarci each contributed three assists.

The first period ended in a 1-1 tie and the Caps, who were playing their third game in as many nights, led 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Winning goaltender was Kyle Michalovsky.

The Caps host the Valley Wildcats in an Islander Day matinee on Monday at 2 p.m.
