The Eastern Express fought a hard battle Sunday in a 2-0 loss to the Halifax Hawks in the semifinals of the Halifax Ice Jam hockey tournament.
The Express killed off several penalties, including two two-man advantages, and was outshot 55-17. Goalie Erik MacInnis allowed a goal midway through the first period and the Hawks added an empty netter with 20 seconds remaining in the third.
MacInnis was game MVP and selected to the tournament's first all-star team.
The Express result is the best for a P.E.I. major bantam team since the tournament began in 2014.
The Hawks went on to defeat the St. John’s Hitmen in the final by a score of 2-0.
