The Capitals acquired six-foot-two and 196-pound forward Riley Whittingham from the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League for a player development fee.

Whittingham, 20, recorded 95 points in 228 regular-season games with the Spokane Chiefs over the past four seasons. He had four points in 19 playoff games.

The Caps dealt a fourth-round draft pick in 2017 to the Amherst Ramblers in exchange for 19-year-old goaltender Kyle Michalovsky.

In 21 MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) regular-season games with the Ramblers, Michalovsky has a 9-12-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) record, a 4.12 goals-against average (GAA) and .892 save percentage.

The Caps did a second deal with Amherst, picking up centre Sam LeBlanc and future considerations in exchange for forward Julian Makary, goaltender Daryl MacCallum, the MHL rights to forward Chris Sarault and a first-round draft pick.

LeBlanc, who played with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season, had 20 points in 24 regular-season games with the Ramblers.

Teams had to be down to 23 players or unused cards by the Jan. 10 deadline.
