Mount Hebert’s Shannon MacAulay scored in Canada’s 8-0 victory over Hungary Thursday in Austria.
It was a pre-tournament game for Canada’s national women’s development team as it prepares to defend its title at the Nations Cup from Jan. 4 to 7 in Füssen, Germany. MacAulay is one of seven returnees from last year’s gold-medal winning squad.
Victoria Bach led Canada Thursday with two goals and two assists, while Mélodie Daoust picked up two goals and an assist. Cassandra Poudrier, Hanna Bunton and Kelly Terry also scored while Amanda Leveille picked up the shutout.
“It was awesome coming out with that win,” said MacAulay, the only player from Atlantic Canada on the squad. “It was a good battle and Hungary gave us a great run but we battled hard and it was good to see our team come together.”
Canada plays the Czech Republic in Austria Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
MacAulay, 21, is a five-foot-11, 176-pound forward. She is in her fourth year at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., and is the Golden Knights captain.
