The Charlottetown Islanders have swapped 19-year-old left-wingers.

The Isles traded Alexandre Goulet Sunday to the Victoriaville Tigres for Samuel Blais.

Blais has 40 points this season, which is 15 more than anyone on the Islanders roster. He is tied for 21st in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League scoring race.

“Blais is a cerebral, skilled player,” Islanders general manager Grant Sonier said Sunday. “Blais is a really, really good consistent offensive forward that has high compete.”

It was a straight one-for-one deal.

“We made a hockey move that’s going to make us better,” Sonier said.

The general manager said with the addition of Blais and Daniel Sprong returning from the NHL the team has added two players capable of scoring a point a game.

“That’s going to translate into more wins,” Sonier said. “We believe this move will double ignite our hockey club.”

Blais, who is six-foot-one and 183 pounds, has 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points in 30 games. He was drafted in the sixth round by the St. Louis Blues in 2014.

The five-foot-11, 196-pound Goulet’s production was down this season. He has 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points in 29 games.

Sonier said Goulet excited the fans while he was here and wished him well in Victoriaville.

“I just think it became apparent this year Goulet needed a new environment,” Sonier said. “He’s a good hockey player that needs a change of scenery.”

The Islanders drafted Goulet with the last pick of the first round in the 2013 draft with a pick acquired in a deal for Louick Marcotte. Goulet teamed with fellow rookie Daniel Sprong the following season on the team’s top line.

Sunday’s deal allows Goulet to play about an hour from his hometown and Sonier said he has had some of his best games against the Tigres.

The GM remains in talks to improve a hockey club that has underachieved this season.

“Our fans deserve better than where we are in the standings,” he said.

“We’re not folding the tent here,” he added. “We’re tweaking our hockey club.”
