Mitchell Balmas scored the only goal of the shootout Friday as the Charlottetown Islanders won their first game of the pre-season.
The Islanders defeated the host Acadie-Bathurst Titan 5-4 to improve to 1-2.
Kameron Kielly and Alexandre Goulet each had a goal and an assist while Daniel Sprong had two helpers.
Dexter Weber and Balmas each added goals in regulation while Will Thompson had an assist. Balmas, the Islanders’ first-round pick, has two goals and an assist in three pre-season games.
Christophe Boivin, Nathan Medeiros, Nicholas Blanchard and Jeffrey Truchon-Viel scored for the Titan.
Chase Marchand made all three saves in the shootout for the Islanders after stopping 19 of 21 shots in the third period. Mason McDonald, who was acquired from the Titan in December, started the game and made 26 saves in the first two periods.
Daniel Vautour stopped five of eight shots in the third period for the host squad while Jacob Brennan made 15 saves.
The Titan held period leads of 1-0 and 2-1 and outshot Charlottetown 49-24.
Each team scored twice on the power play.
The Islanders host the Moncton Wildcats (2-0) Sunday at 4 p.m. at the APM Centre in Cornwall. The Wildcats host the Titan tonight at 7 p.m.
