MacEachern top Islander on QMJHL draft list

The final Central Scouting list for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League 2014 draft was released Wednesday and the highest rated Island player is defenceman Conor MacEachern of the Charlottetown Mark’s Work Wearhouse Islanders.

He’s listed midway through Rounds 6-8.

MacEachern had a goal, four assists and 42 penalty minutes in 31 games with N.B.-P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League last season. The Charlottetown native was scoreless in six playoff games.

The Charlottetown Islanders pick 12th and 15th in the first  round of the draft Saturday, May 31, in Sherbrooke, Que.

Quebec forward Pascal Laberge of Chateauguay is rated first overall. The Saint John Sea Dogs have the first pick.

The top Atlantic Canadian is Nova Scotia native and goalie Evan Fitzpatrick of Newbridge Academy in Dartmouth, N.S.
