Former Charlottetown Islanders defenceman Ryan Graves required some dental work Thursday, but will play tonight for the Val-d’Or Foreurs.

The Yarmouth, N.S., native was pushed forward into a scrum during the first period of Wednesday’s Game 4 with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. He fell to the ice and hit his mouth on what he believes was a skate.

“I finished the game,” he said Friday afternoon. “It wasn’t that painful really.”

On Thursday, he had a root canal, a tooth pulled and two fillings as a result of the incident.

But it won’t keep him out of the lineup for Game 5 tonight at 8:30 p.m. in Val-d’Or with the series tied 2-2.

“This is a huge game for us tonight – a must win – so it’s pretty important (for me) to play,” Graves said.

“It’s two evenly matched teams. . . Hopefully, we can win the next few games here.”

Graves was traded to the Foreurs on the final day of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League trade period on Jan. 7.

“It was tough to leave P.E.I.,” Graves admitted. “But coming to Val-d’Or, we have an extremely good team. We have a chance to go pretty far in the playoffs, so that made it a little easier.”

Also helping with the transition was the presence of former teammates in Charlottetown, winger Louick Marcotte and goalie Antoine Bibeau.
