TIGNISH — The Southside Lynx bounced back in a big way on Sunday night.
After dropping a 3-2-overtime decision on home ice in Game 1 of the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League championship series on Saturday evening, the Lynx posted a 5-1-road victory over the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces in Game 2.
Game 3 is scheduled for the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud on Saturday at 7:40 p.m. The date of Game 4 has yet to be announced.
Lynx 5, Aces 1
At the Tignish Credit Union Arena, Cody Dawson (1-1), Rob Miller (1-1), Greg Beckingham, Alex MacLeod and Blake MacKenzie scored for the Lynx, who held period leads of 2-1 and 3-1. Single assists were credited to Colton Dawson, Marshall Thomas, Andy Murphy and Willie MacGuigan.
Brett Gaudet, assisted by Charlie Bernard and Riley Shea, countered for the Aces.
Overall, the Lynx held a 38-35 shots-on-goal advantage. John Miller was the winning goaltender, and Chase Dyment was between the pipes for Tignish.
Referee Jonny Martin called a total of nine minor penalties in the game – five of those against the Aces.
Gaudet was selected as the Aces’ Regal Cresting player of the game.
Aces 3, Lynx 2 (OT)
At the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud, Alex Brennan scored with 4:04 remaining in the first overtime period to lift Tignish to victory.
The teams stuck strictly to hockey as referee Jeff Affleck called only one minor penalty against Tignish the Aces the entire game.
The Lynx led 1-0 after the first period on an unassisted goal by Dawson, but goals by Gaudet and Mason Perry gave the Aces a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. Miller, who was set up by Dawson and Colton Dawson, tied the game for the Lynx with 8:01 to go in the third period.
Lucas Gaudet, Kirk Ramsay, Jacob LeClair, Karter Hackett and Dylan Rayner drew assists for the Aces.
Overall, the Lynx outshot the Aces 39-23, including a 19-6 advantage in the third period. Dyment earned the goaltending win over Dylan Garnhum.
