Caps edge Regals in overtime in midget AAA hockey playoff game

SUMMERSIDE — The Summerside Hemphill GM Capitals pulled out a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Western Regals in P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League playoff action on Tuesday night.

The Capitals’ Owen Arsenault scored his second goal of the game with 12 seconds remaining in the third period to tie the game 3-3, and team captain Jesse MacFarlane scored the game-winner 4:39 into overtime.

It was a big bounce-back game for the Capitals, who dropped the series opener 11-0 on Saturday night. The Capitals will return to the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton for Game 3 tonight  at 7:30.

At Credit Union Place’s Ice Pad, Chasse Gallant (1-2) also scored for the Capitals while Arsenault added two assists to finish with a four-point night. Single helpers went to MacFarlane and Spencer Groom.

Brett Aylward, Drake Smallman and Jake Arsenault countered for the Regals. Thomas Fraser, Calvin McRae, Jeff Gaudet, TJ Shea and Jason Gallant drew assists.

The Capitals led 2-1 after the opening period, and the teams were tied 2-2 following the second frame.

Blake Arsenault was the winning goaltender, and Avery Arsenault was between the pipes for the Regals.
