Mid-Isle leads Pownal 2-0 in best-of-five bantam AAA quarter-final

The Mid-Isle Matrix looks to sweep the Pownal Red Devils tonight in their Irving Oil bantam AAA hockey playoff series.

The Matrix defeated the Red Devils 4-3 Saturday in Kensington to take Game 2 of the best-of-five series. Game 3 is tonight at 7:10 p.m. in Pownal.

Zac MacKay led Mid-Isle with a pair of goals while singles went to Cameron Roberts and Kyle MacGuigan. Ryan Boswall had three assists while singles went to Donovan Wyand, Bryce Thompson and Logan MacKay.

Mid-Isle scored three of its goals on the power play while all three of the Red Devils markers came with the man advantage.

Brodie MacMillan had a pair of goals for Pownal while Barrington Duffy had the other. Jason Poley had three assists while Dawson Palmer and Bret Cheverie each added one.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first while Pownal went to the third with a 3-2 lead. MacKay tied it with nine minutes to play and MacGuigan scored the winner with 2:02 on the clock.

 Tyler Caseley was the winning goalie while Sumner Docherty took the loss.

The winner of the series plays Summerside in the semifinal.
