Women Panthers drop hockey opener in double overtime

Moncton’s Natacha Bergeron scored at 19:32 of the second overtime to give the host Blue Eagles a 2-1 victory over the UPEI Panthers in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey playoff action Tuesday night.

Moncton leads the best-of-three quarter-final series 1-0. Game 2 is Friday at MacLauchlan Arena at

7 p.m.

Jessie Howard scored UPEI’s goal in the second period. Ferran Brown and Christina Kelly each drew an assist.

Moncton’s Catherine Dumas tied the game 1-1 with a power-play goal at 13:44 in the third period. Amelie Dion and Marie-Pier Arsenault had the helpers.

Elisa Savoie assisted on the game-winning goal.

Gabrielle Forget earned the win over Marie-Soleil Deschenes.

The Blue Eagles outshot UPEI 39-32, including 9-6 over the two overtimes.

Mount Allison beat St. Thomas 3-2 to take Game 1 in Tuesday's other quarter-final series opener.
