Kensington hosts Montague in key game Sunday night
CHARLOTTETOWN – The Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers spotted the Holland College Hurricanes a 3-1 first-period lead before answering back to earn an important two points on Saturday night.
The final score of the Island Junior Hockey League game was 7-6.
The Vipers, who are 23-4-0, opened up a four-point lead over the Montague Maniacs (20-6-2) in the race for first place. The Vipers will host the Maniacs at Community Gardens on Sunday at 7 p.m.
At Simmons Sport Centre, seven different players – Jordan Mayhew (1-2), Zen Hamil (1-2), Brett Hogan (1-2), Josh Bowman, Spencer Montgomery, Kyle Doucette and Jeremy Jollimore – scored for the Vipers. Ryan Kelly, Logan Garnhum, Tanner MacGuigan and Drew Coulson were credited with single assists.
Patrick Cummiskey (3), Adam Gardner (1-1), Andrew Skinner (1-1) and Nick MacDonald countered for the Hurricanes (7-18-3). Jonathan Richards (2), Eric Locke, Logan Toole and Dalton MacDonald collected helpers.
The Hurricanes led 3-2 after the first period, and the teams went into the second intermission tied 5-5.
