Riley Shea and Tyson Carragher each scored hat tricks and helped set up three other goals to lead the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces to an important two points on Friday night.
The 10-3 win over the Sherwood Falcons clinched third place in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League for the Aces, who completed the regular season at 17-10-1. The Summerside Source for Sports Capitals went into Sunday afternoon’s regular-season finale in Belfast two points back of Tignish, but the Aces do hold the tiebreaker – better record in head-to-head meetings.
At the Tignish Credit Union Arena, Dylan Ellis (2), Charlie Bernard (1-2) and Parker Arsenault (1-1) also scored for the Aces, who built period leads of 3-1 and 5-1. Mason Perry (2), Dylan Rayner (2), Kirk Ramsay, Tyler Howard, Karter Hackett and Jacob LeClair earned assists.
Owen Wilson, Jacob Kays and Joe Ready answered for the Falcons. Nathan Stewart, Zach Gould and Alex Hughes picked up assists.
Winning goaltender was Chase Dyment, who stopped 35 of 38 shots. The Aces directed 33 shots at the Sherwood goal.
Arsenault was selected as the Regal Cresting player of the game for the Aces.
Capitals 4, Flames 2
The Summerside Source for Sports Capitals doubled the North River Flames 4-2 in a Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League contest at The Plex on Friday night.
Nathan Arsenault (2), Zack MacDonald (1-1) and Josh Bernard scored for the Capitals while single assists were credited to Nathan McInnis, Gregory Arsenault, Matt MacDonald, Branson Groom and Tyler MacKay.
Brady McQuaid and Craig Campbell countered for the Flames, who received single assists from Cameron MacMurdo, Andy Sturtz, Cody White and Taylor Doyle.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and the Capitals took a 3-1 advantage into the second intermission.
Winning goaltender was Catlin Sonier, and Taylor Doyle was the goaltender of record for North River. The Capitals outshot the Flames 46-23.
Sabres 8, Hawks 5
The Belfast Sabres outlasted the Souris Hawks 8-5 in a Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League game on Saturday.
Brady Doiron (2-2), Cody Garnhum (2-1), Jack Panting (1-1), Dustin Gunn (1-1), Connor Lea (1-1) and Nolan Irving scored for the Sabres, who will take an 18-8-1 record into Sunday afternoon’s home game against the Summerside Source for Sports Capitals (16-10-1). Cody McGuirk added four assists while Matthew Glover had three and Simon VanWeichen had a single helper.
Derek Cormier (2-1), Luke MacDonald (1-1), Ryan Compton and J.D. Farrell countered for the Hawks (10-12-4). Jordan MacCormack, Gabriel Leger and T.J. Donahue assisted.
The Sabres held period advantages of 2-0 and 7-3.
Winning goaltender was Jason Whiteway.
Lynx 3, Flames 1
The Southside Lynx pulled out a 3-1 victory over the North River Flames at the APM Centre on Saturday night.
Rob Miller, Brandon Green and Cody Dawson scored for the regular-season-champion Lynx, who now sports a record of 22-2-3. Greg Beckingham (2), Andy Murphy and Alex MacLeod chipped in with assists.
Brady McQuaid, assisted by Lal Hennessey, netted the lone goal for the Flames (8-16-3).
The Lynx led 1-0 after the first and second periods.
John Miller earned the goaltending win over Kurt Willis.
