Parks shines in UPEI Panthers men's hockey victory at Acadia

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – UPEI Panthers goaltender Mavic Parks turned in a 47-save performance in a huge road win here Friday night.

Parks backstopped the Panthers to a 5-2 decision over the Acadia Axemen in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action. The win improved the fourth-place Panthers’ record to 12-8-3 while the second-place Axemen fell to 17-3-3. Acadia is two points behind the league-leading UNB Varsity Reds (19-3-1), who posted a 3-2 overtime win over the St. Francis Xavier X-Men (10-10-3).

Before 1,876 fans at Acadia Arena, Parks stopped all 16 shots he faced in the first period, turned away 22 of 24 directed his way in the middle frame and closed the door by blocking all nine Acadia shots in the third period.

Offensively, Chris Desousa (2-1), Reggie Traccitto (2) and Alex Wall provided UPEI’s goals.

Chris Owens and Tyler Ferry replied for the Axemen.

The Panthers fired 27 shots at Acadia goaltender Evan Mosher.

UPEI visits the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday night.
