UPEI Panthers open exhibition basketball tournament with victory

The UPEI Panthers rode a big second half to a 88-72 victory Thursday over the St. F.X. X-Men at the Rod Shoveller Memorial Tournament in Halifax.

Lorenzo Parker and Jayden Skinner-Nordin led the Panthers with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Joe Kendrick had 13 points, seven rebounds and six steals while Will Caesar added 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

Brian Ofori had eight points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Jordan Clarke with 13 led the X-Men.

The Panthers trailed 20-17 after the first quarter and 44-40 at the half. UPEI outscored the X-Men 27-15 in the third to take a 67-59 lead and never looked back.

The Panthers had a 16-rebound advantage, including 19-7 on the offensive glass.

UPEI plays Dalhousie Friday at 8 p.m. and Saint Mary’s Saturday at 5 p.m.
