Prince Edward Island teams captured four of the seven divisions at the 2013 Pownal Markan Hardwood Plus Memorial minor hockey tournament recently in Pownal.
In the novice AA division, the North River Flames completed a tremendous comeback by scoring four unanswered goals in the third period and beat Kings County 5-4.
Kings County had advanced to the final with a 4-3 decision over Pownal while North River had defeated Charlottetown 7-5 earlier in the day.
In the atom AA division, the TASA ducks edged Shediac 4-3 in a thrilling final.
In semifinal play, Shediac defeated Gulf Storm 5-0 and TASA got by Lewisville 5-3.
The Charlottetown Abbies defeated the Summerside Capitals 1-0 to capture the atom AAA crown.
In semifinal action, Charlottetown edged West Prince 6-5 while Summerside knocked off Kings County 4-3.
In the peewee AA division, the most exciting game of the day saw Kensington erase an early two-goal deficit by defeating the host Pownal Red Devils 3-2 in overtime.
Both teams cruised to the final with convincing semifinal wins earlier in the day.
Make it two in a row for the Summerside Capitals over the Pownal Red Devils in peewee AAA action.
In a rematch of the Early Bird tournament final, Pownal was unable to overcome the Capitals’ strong overall team defence as the Caps won 2-0.
Earlier in the day, Summerside defeated Charlottetown 7-2 while Pownal got by Mid-Isle 4-2 to advance to the final.
In the bantam AA division, the Sackville Flyers completed a thoroughly dominating performance by defeating the Summerside Capitals 4-1 to capture the championship.
Sackville finished the tournament with an incredible 33 goals for and one against.
In the midget AA division, the Truro Bearcats defeated the Charlottetown Abbies 2-1.
In semifinal play, Truro avenged an earlier loss by defeating the North River Flames 4-2 while Charlottetown knocked off the previously undefeated Pownal Red Devils 5-3 to advance to the final.
The annual tournament is dedicated to the memory of deceased players, coaches and volunteers of the Pownal Minor Hockey Association.
This year’s event attracted over 55 teams from across the Maritimes.
