Troy Vance scored the shootout winner Sunday in Saint John, N.B., as the Charlottetown Islanders remained undefeated early in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season.
The veteran blue-liner scored in the ninth round of the shootout to give the Islanders a 3-2 victory over the Sea Dogs. They are now 4-0 to start the season.
Daniel Sprong and Yan-Pavel Laplante scored in regulation for Charlottetown with assists from Kevin Laliberte, Kameron Kielly, Anthony Cortese and Matej Beran.
Marcus Cuomo and Nathan Noel scored for the Sea Dogs with assists to Jeremy Doucet, Samuel Dove-McFalls, Oliver Cooper and Morell native Stephen Anderson in front of 2,536 at HarbourFront Centre.
Eric Brassard, in his first game with the Islanders, made 34 saves for the victory. Sebastien Auger stopped 38 shots for Saint John.
The score was tied 1-1 after the first and second periods.
The teams play Friday night in Charlottetown at 7 p.m.
