Chiasson picks up two goals and an assist for Summerside

MIRAMICHI, N.B. — The Summerside Western Capitals made it 10 straight wins in the Maritime Junior Hockey League on Wednesday night.

The Capitals started a stretch of five straight road games with a 4-2 decision over the Miramichi Timberwolves to improve their overall league-leading record to 29-6-2-0.

The Timberwolves fell to 17-16-1-1.

Before 508 fans at the Miramichi Civic Centre, Danny Chiasson led the Capitals with two goals and an assist. 

Scott Trask and JP Harvey also scored.

Thomas Stavert, Craig MacLauchlan, Alex Gallant and Patrick Volpe all picked up assists for the Summerside squad.

After a scoreless first period, the Capitals took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Capitals went on to open up a 4-0 lead in the third period.

Tyrone Sock (6:05) and Mitchell McMullin (6:49) then struck for two quick goals to get the Timberwolves back in the

contest.

The Capitals outshot the Timberwolves 41-19, including period advantages of 11-5, 18-6 and 12-8 in the first two periods.

Jordan Kennedy was between the pipes for the Timberwolves.

Referee Scott MacKay had a quiet night, assessing two minors against the Caps while the Timberwolves picked up one minor and one

10-minute misconduct.

The game’s three stars were: 1. Danny Chiasson (Caps), 2. Scott Trask (Caps), 3. Jordan Kennedy (Timberwolves).

The Capitals travel to Nova Scotia this weekend to take on the Bridgewater Lumberjacks (7-30-0-2) on Friday night and the Eastlink Division-leading Yarmouth Mariners (26-7-1-0) on Saturday.

The Capitals’ next home game at Eastlink Arena is against the Woodstock Slammers on Sunday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m.

 

Selected a star

In other Capitals’ news, forward Jonathan Aubertin was named one of the league’s Reebok CCM three stars this week after scoring four goals and earning two assists in two games.

In a 7-1 win over the Campbellton Tigers on Friday night, Aubertin scored twice while being named the game’s second star.

Saturday evening, in a 7-1 win over the Metro Shipbuilders, Aubertin was again the second star as he turned in two goals and two assists.
