The P.E.I. Rocket has acquired defenceman Troy Vance from the Victoriaville Tigers.

The Rocket sent defenceman Mark Trickett, and forward Carl Chenier to the Tigers in return. Both teams also traded draft picks in the 2014 QMJHL entry draft as the Rocket sent a third-round pick to Victoriaville and the Tigers sent a fifth-round pick back to the Rocket.

Vance, a six-foot-five, 205-pound blue-liner, was a fifth-round draft pick of the Dallas Stars in the 2011 NHL entry draft. The 19-year-old had three goals and 15 assists to go with 41 penalty minutes this season.

“We were clear from the beginning of this trade period that we liked our team and we would get better without selling the farm,” Rocket president Serge Savard Jr. said.

“The size and offence Troy Vance adds to our back end has allowed us to do this. We certainly see the upside in Mark and Carl but this trade makes us better immediately and we still have some great assets coming back next year and the year after.”

Trickett, 17, was a second-round pick in the 2012 QMJHL draft. In 27 games this season he had no points and 11 penalty minutes. Carl Chenier, 17, was a third-round pick of the Rocket in the 2011. He had no points and four penalty minutes in four games since being called up Dec. 28 from Quebec junior AAA.

    Live coverage?
    - January 8, 2013 at 17:18:22

I wish more live coverage was accessible; unless I am incorrect, Islanders have to have a Telus account to access a live game? I could be wrong, if so, let Islanders know. Now that I've lobotomized myself from the NH-ell I need a real hockey fix; no more being treated like a second class John rather then a Fan. Anyway, clearly I need help and if the Rocket can provide it, all the better. Oh, and all this talk about real Hockey Fans being forgiving? There's a support group that meets on most Saturday Nights that includes the smell of a Zamboni on real ice . . .
