McIver scores twice to lead Panthers to victory

The UPEI Panthers knocked off the country’s second-ranked Acadia Axemen 4–2 Saturday in Charlottetown.

Newton’s Harrison McIver scored twice and set up another to lead the way while singles went to Jordan Mayer and Tyler Brown.

Matthew Brenton had two assists while singles went to Brown, Dana Fraser, Cole MacMillan and Nathan McQuaid.

Andrew Clark had both the Axemen’s goals. Assists went to Cullen Morin, Christopher Owens, Mike Cazzola and Dustin Ekelman.

The Panthers outshot the Axemen 28-25.

UPEI improves to 8-9-1 while Acadia falls to 12-5-1.

The teams combined for 14 penalty minutes.

The last time the teams met, Nov. 30 in Wolfville, Mason Wilgosh hit Owens. The conference suspended Wilgosh 12 games for the hit. UPEI has appealed the suspension and a hearing is set for Tuesday in Sackville, N.B.

Conference-leading UNB defeated Dalhousie 3-0 Saturday in Fredericton.
