Currie nets winner as Rocket nips Oceanic

Charlottetown native Josh Currie had the eventual game-winning goal as the P.E.I. Rocket beat the Rimouski Oceanic 4-3 on Saturday in Rimouski, Que.

In the third period, Currie scored on the power play to give the Rocket a 4-1 lead. The goal was Currie’s 19th of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season.

The Rocket wrapped up a two-game road trip and improved to 12-7-1-0, and passed Rimouski for the sixth overall spot.

Victor Provencher (1-1), Louick Marcotte (1-1) and Ben Duffy (1-1) had the other Rocket goals. Assists went to Currie and Erik Robichaud.

Scott Oke had a pair of goals for the Oceanic while Summerside native Ryan MacKinnon had his third goal of the season.

Rocket goalie Maxime Lagacé made 35 saves in the win. Philippe Desrosiers stopped 22 shots in the loss for Rimouski.

The Rocket returns to action Wednesday in Cape Breton against the Screaming Eagles (7 p.m.), then host the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Friday.

Game time is 7 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
