Island natives and former Shawinigan Cataractes defencemen Morgan Ellis and Brandon Gormley have been assigned to their respective American Hockey League teams because of the recent NHL lockout.

Ellis of Ellerslie went to the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Montreal Canadiens affiliate, while Gormley of Murray River, was sent to Portland Pirates, the Phoenix Coyotes farm club.

The pair were two of dozens of players with Atlantic Canadian and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League ties shipped to the AHL.

Other familiar names include Nathan Beaulieu (Montreal) Charlie Coyle and Zack Phillips (Minnesota), Tomas Jurco (Detroit) and Stanislav Galiev (Washington).
