Wildcats beats Rocket 6-5

Alex Saulnier scored the winner with about five minutes to play Friday to lead the host Moncton Wildcats to a 6-5 victory over the P.E.I. Rocket in preseason Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Matej Beran led the Rocket with two goals and an assist. Victor Provencher, Ben Duffy and Alexis Pépin had the other goals.

Josh Currie and Mark Trickett each had two assists while singles went to Alex Micallef, Pépin, Alexandre Chenier-Allard and Jimmy Oligny.

The Wildcats led 3-2 after the first period and 5-3 heading to the third.

The Rocket was 3-for-4 on the power play.

Antoine Bibeau made 32 saves in the loss.

Dmitri Jaskin and Yannick Veilleux each had two goals for Moncton while Ivan Barbashev, the top pick in the 2012 CHL import draft, added a single marker.

The Rocket drop to 2-3 in pre-season play.

The two teams meet again Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Charlottetown Civic Centre in the final game of the pre-season.
