Hurricanes open football schedule with trip to U.S.

Holland College Hurricanes

The Atlantic Football League (AFL) will kick off their season with two exhibition games in the United States.

The Holland College Hurricanes, the defending AFL champion, will visit the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Me., on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The next day, the UNBSJ Seawolves will be in Bangor, Me., to face Husson University.

League play for all four AFL teams begins on Saturday, Sept. 13, as Holland College travels to Saint John, N.B., and the Dalhousie Tigers host the UNB Fredericton Red Bombers.  

The Hurricanes will play their first home game on Sunday, Sept. 21, against UNB Fredericton at 1 p.m.

Their other home games are Saturday, Sept. 27, against Dalhousie and Saturday, Oct. 11, against UNB Saint John. Both games are at 1 p.m.

This will be the sixth season for the four-team, community-based league.

All teams will play six league regular season contests. Semifinals are set for the weekend of Oct. 25 and 26 with the final slated for Nov. 1. CLICK HERE FOR FULL SCHEDULE.

“We expect another exciting season from our four established teams,‚“ said AFL commissioner Terry Allen. “Any one of the four teams has the potential to win the league title.”

Holland College won their second AFL title last season after struggling to finish third in the regular season.
