CHARLOTTETOWN – The Summerside Raiders are right where they want to be.
The P.E.I. representative in the under-16 boys division of the flag football national championships went into the three-day competition with a goal of getting in the semifinal game between the second- and third-place teams on Sunday.
The Raiders completed round-robin play on Saturday with a 1-4-1 record, good enough for third place. The Raiders will play Saskatchewan (4-1-0) at 10 a.m. First-place Manitoba (4-1-0) will take on fourth-place Nova Scotia (0-4-1) in the other semifinal at 9 a.m.
The Raiders played three games Saturday, tying Nova Scotia 7-7 while losing 19-0 to Manitoba and 47-24 to Saskatchewan.
In under-16 girls, the P.E.I. representative, Summerside Steelers, completed play on Saturday afternoon.
The Steelers tied Saskatchewan 25-25 and lost 24-0 to undefeated Manitoba (4-0-0) to complete the round robin 0-3-1. The Steelers play a quarter-final game between the fourth- and fifth-place teams. Nova Scotia (1-3-0) pulled out a 13-6 victory to advance to Sunday morning’s semifinal against Manitoba.
Quebec (3-1-0) and Saskatchewan (1-2-1) will meet in the other semifinal.
Four teams are also competing in under-18 girls. Those semifinal matchups will feature first-place Saskatchewan (5-0-1) taking on fourth-place Manitoba (0-5-1) at 9 a.m., and second-place Quebec (3-1-2) meeting third-place Nova Scotia (2-4-0) at 10 a.m.
