Four members of the KO-Ed Boxing Academy in Charlottetown will be heading to Quebec City this weekend to take part in the national championships.

Colton Perry, Connor Keating, Matthew Doyle and Charlie MacDougall, along with coaches Howard Watts and John Chiasson, will be making the trip. There is quiet confidence amongst the group they can put in some good performances.

The event brings together Canada's best 236 boxers in junior, youth and elite categories. It runs from Monday to Saturday.

Chiasson said they are looking forward to the experience.

"Of course we are looking for medals, but this time around is experiencing the atmosphere of the event and getting used to the calibre at the national level," he said. "This will be unlike anything the boys have experienced before, and it will be invaluable to them moving forward."

Perry, a 16-year-old Marshfield resident, is the most experienced of the quartet, having put together a 20-5 win-loss record. He is the Canadian Golden Gloves champion and will compete in the youth 60-kg division.

Keating is also a Canadian Golden Gloves champion. A 15-year-old Cornwall resident will be competing in the 66-kg junior C class.

MacDougall, a 15-year-old from Kingston, and Doyle, a 14-year-old from Charlottetown, are both Atlantic gloves champions who will compete in the junior C 66-kg and 52-kg divisions, respectively.

Doyle is the son of three-time Canadian champion Steven Watts.

Last month all four boxers won at an amateur card in Campbellton, N.B.

Perry stopped Antoine Jalbert from Quebec in the first round, while MacDougall and Doyle also beat Quebec opponents on decisions. Keating overcame Sean Finnigan of Nova Scotia also on decision.
