Men's basketball Panthers get bye to AUS semi; women face UNB Friday

The UPEI men's basketball Panthers dodged a bullet on the weekend, despite their loss to UNB on Friday night.

UNB fell to Acadia on Saturday, thereby awarding the Panthers the second seed in the AUS tournament in Halifax next weekend.

UPEI gets a bye to the semifinal and will play Saturday at 8:30 p.m. against the winner of the Cape Breton (6) vs. Acadia (3) quarter-final matchup on Friday.

Top-seed Dalhousie awaits the winner of the Saint Mary's-UNB quarter-final match.

The men's final is Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

As for the UPEI women's team, they are the fifth seed and will meet fourth-seed UNB on Friday at 1 p.m. The winner of that game moves on to play top-seed Saint Mary's on Saturday at 1 p.m. Dalhousie plays Cape Breton in the other quarter-final matchup, with the winner facing second-seed Acadia on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The women's final goes Sunday at 1 p.m.

Both the men's and women's games take place at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.
