Metros, Aces start junior C playoffs with wins

Jake Arsenault has four points in Sherwood's victory

The Sherwood Metros and the Tignish Perry's Construction Aces got the jump on their opponents in Razzy's P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League playoff action.

Sherwood downed the Morell Flyers 6-1 Monday at Cody Banks Arena after Tignish won a 3-2 contest Sunday versus the North River Flames in Cornwall.

Sherwood and Tignish lead the best-of-five quarter-finals 1-0.

Game 2 between Sherwood and Morell is Friday, at 8:20 p.m., in Morell, while Game 2 in the Tignish-North River series is  Thursday, at 7:30 p.m., in Tignish.

Metros 6, Flyers 1

Jake Arsenault scored twice in the first period while Brodie MacArthur, Owen Arsenault (1-3) and Chad Wilson added second-period goals as Sherwood grounded the Flyers at Cody Banks Arena.

Max MacDonald chipped in a third-period score. MacArthur, Cody Doyle and Jake Arsenault each had two assists.

Cole Condon, assisted by Tyler Doucette and Connor Curran, netted Morell's lone marker.

Sherwood outshot Morell 45-28.

James Duffy earned the win over Seth Nicholson.

Aces 3, Flames 2

Two aces goals in the first period provided enough cushion for the Aces to score the road victory in Cornwall.

Ryley Doyle (1-1) and Tyson Carragher (1-1) had the early markers for Tignish, sandwiching a Flames goal by Cody Cudmore.

After a scoreless second period, Tignish's Colton Gallant (1-1) added a third-period goal at 8:29 for a 3-1 lead.

Cudmore struck again to close the deficit to 3-2, but Tignish kept the Flames off the scoresheet the rest of the way.

Lal Hennessey chipped in two assists for the Flames, which outshot Tignish 37-32.

Avery Arsenault got the win over Zack Geldert.
