The UPEI Panthers were swept Saturday by St. FX in Atlantic University Sport basketball.
The women's Panthers lost 70-65 to split their weekend games with the X-Women while the men lost 96-90 to drop their second in as many days in Antigonish, N.S.The men's Panthers trailed 25-21 after the first quarter, but led 45-44 at halftime. They led 76-70 after three quarters before being outscored 26-14 in the final 10 minutes. Kevin Bercy led X with 33 points and 13 rebounds while Julius Antoine and Cameron Walker each scored 20. Tyler Scott led the Panthers with 31 points on 12-of-28 shooting. Amin Suleman and Brad States chipped in with 14 and 12 points, respectively. St. FX is 3-12 on the season while UPEI is 10-6. UPEI's women's team held leads of 20-11 after the first quarter and 35-23 at the half. The game was tied 49-49 heading to the fourth. Lindsay Lessard had a game-high 33 points to pace the X-Women. Katie Donahoe had 20 and Anne Kiberd 18 to lead the Panthers attack. Donahoe added nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Jane McLaughlin had 11 points and 10 rebounds while Tamara Tompkins added 10 points. The X-Women improved to 3-12 while the Panthers are 4-12. They both have 10 points and are fighting for the last playoff spot.
