Panthers defeat X-Women by 36

Anne Kiberd scored 22 and Tamara Tompkins had 18 as the UPEI Panthers pounded the St. FX X-Women 73-37 Friday in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball action.

The Panthers went to work early, jumping out to a 22-7 lead after the first quarter in Antigonish, N.S. They led 38-19 at the half and after a 15-4 third quarter led 53-23 heading to the fourth.

Jane McLaughlin had 11points and nine rebounds while Kiera Rigby had 12 points, six rebounds and five assists. Point guard Katie Donahoe had 10 rebounds, seven assists and three points.

Tompkins scored her 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting.

Lindsay Lessard had 12 points and nine rebounds to pace the X-Women.

The Panthers led by 46 points with 4:07 to play.

UPEI improved to 4-11 and are two points up on St. FX (2-12) for the final playoff spot. The teams play again Saturday at 2 p.m. UPEI has won all three meetings this season with the St. FX.
