‘Canes begin second half of season with weekend games on the mainland

The Holland College Hurricanes basketball teams hit the road this weekend in their return to Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season action in Bible Hill, N.S., and Sackville, N.B.

Today, the men's ‘Canes face the Dal-AC Rams in Bible Hill, then Sunday both teams visit the Mount Allison Mounties in Sackville.

Game time today is 2 p.m. Sunday's games go at 2:30 p.m. for the women and 4:30 p.m. for the men.

The men's Hurricanes enter 2016 ranked second in the country and sit in first place in the ACAA at 7-0.

Meanwhile, Dal-AC is 0-7 and last the conference and Mount Allison (4-3) is fourth.

Holland College is led by Roosevelt Whyley, who's averaged 18.9 points per game. Muzher Mirza and Trevone Ross will join the Hurricanes roster for the weekend.

On the women's side, Holland College is 5-1 and in second place behind league-leading Mount Allison (6-0). The 'Canes are eighth in the national rankings.

Jenea Barrett leads Holland College with 21.3 points per game

The squad has added Candace Smith (New Minas, N.S.), Milcania Diaz-Rojas (Toronto), Sarah Steele (Charlottetown) and Chrishanda Rahming (Nassau, Bahamas) to the roster after playing with a short bench in the first semester. Smth is a former UPEI Panthers guard.
