Ellsworth, Yeo named to tournament all-star team

The Colonel Gray Colonels lost 76-66 to the Horton Griffins, the top-ranked team in the Maritimes, Saturday in the final of Dairy Town Classic high school girls basketball tournament in Sussex, N.B.

Jenna Mae Ellsworth had 24 points to lead the Colonels while Jada Yeo added 18 in a contest where they were consistently doubled and even triple teamed. Both made the tournament all-star team.

It was the third straight year the Colonels have made the final of the Dairy Town Classic.

The Colonels will get another crack at Horton in February at the Griffins tournament in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley.

Colonel Gray started the tournament by beating the Miramichi Valley Pulamoo 54-37 with Sophia Blanchard leading the way with 17, Yeo 16 and Ellsworth 14.

They knocked off the Maritime’s third-ranked Riverview Royals 74-47 behind 27 from Yeo and 25 from Ellsworth.

The girls’ third game was against the Griffins, who pulled away late for a 84-66 win. Ellsworth had 40 and Yeo added 18.

The Colonels knocked off the second-ranked team in the Maritimes, the Sussex High Sonics, 64-56 in the final game of the round robin to earn a berth in the final.

In front of a packed crowd in Sussex, Ellsworth scored 30 and Yeo 18.
