Storm loses first game of season, 121-106

The Island Storm allowed 41 second-quarter points Saturday in losing the season opener 121-106 to the Saint John Mill Rats.

The Storm led 32-31 after the first quarter but trailed 73-52 at the half and 100-75 going to the fourth.

“It is tough, but we’ll . . . fix it. It is the first game out of 40,” said Storm power forward Mike Martin.

Anthony Anderson paced the Mill Rats with 24 points and 10 assists while Robinson Odoch-Opong and Doug Herring Jr. scored 20 and 19, respectively.

Point guard Malcolm Grant led the Storm with 24 points and 10 assists. Brian Addison had 16 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.

Brent Jennings chipped in 18 points while Nick Evans had 11 points and 11 boards and Rashad Whack scored 10.

The Storm plays the Miracles Sunday at 2 p.m. in Moncton.

Martin said the team would review some tape tonight, make adjustments and get some rest.
