The Island Storm has signed a point guard with a record of knocking down three-pointers.

The team announced the signing of Sammy Zeglinkski on Monday.

“After talking with coach (Joe) Salerno over the past couple of weeks, I was able to get to know him and talk about his vision for the season,” he said. “I am thankful and excited to be a part of that vision and can’t wait to start working towards our team goals.”

He is fifth all-time in three-point shots made at the University of Virginia. The six-foot-one point guard started three years at Virginia, averaging more than 8.5 points, 2.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals during his senior year.

The Philadelphia native played pro in Austria last season averaging 16 points, five rebounds, and nearly five assists per game in Austria’s top professional basketball division.

“Sammy was maybe the best point guard I saw all summer,” Salerno said. “He had a great career in one of the top NCAA conferences in the country, playing at the University of Virginia in the ACC, so he has competed at a very high level. He has a tremendous IQ for the game and may be the best perimeter shooter at the point guard position we have had over the past three years.”
