The P.E.I. Scotiabank Reds are heading to the Canadian national under-18 girls fast pitch championship in Saskatoon, Sask. Sarah Woodside drove in Emily Cairns with the winning run in the top of the sixth inning Friday as the P.E.I. Scotiabank Reds defeated Alberta Four 2-1 at the Canadian under-18 girls softball championships in Saskatoon.
Woodside had two singles during the contest while Jacinda Costello also had an RBI base hit. Clara Jane Wood and Katie Rayner also had singles.
Jordon Havenga scattered three hits for the complete-game victory. She struck out three and walked one.
Alberta scored in the first and the Island squad replied with one to tie it in the second.
P.E.I. is 2-0 in the Co-op challenge cup standings after defeating Manitoba Two 10-2 early Thursday. They play Nova Scotia Friday at 1:30 p.m. ADT.
