Twenty-one PGA professionals braved the elements at the Summerside Golf Club on Monday in the first PGA Cup Event of the season.
The golf course held up well in weather that saw the professionals deal with temperatures hovering around 5 degrees coupled with heavy rain and wind. Only two greens presented a challenge and the grounds staff was very diligent ensuring fair playing conditions.
Troy Howe of Golf Town Moncton was victorious with a solid score of 75.
After opening with two straight bogeys, Howe settled down to play steady golf at one over for the remaining 16 holes.
Alex Egan of Mactaquac finished second with a 76. Egan made it close when he birdied number 16 paired with Howe’s bogey. In fact, other than a disappointing couple of holes at 11 and 12, where Egan triple bogeyed the par 4 eleventh and bogeyed the par 5 twelfth, he played even par for the other 16 holes.
Finishing in third was the host Dallas Desjardins with a 78.
Other top finishers included Andre DiBartolo in 4th with a 79. Tied for 5th were Scott Frizzell from The Links at Montague and Alex Jewers of Nevada Bob’s Halifax.
Finishing in a tie for 7th were Jeremy Briggs of Andersons Creek and Jon Garron of Abercrombie.
Rounding out the top 10 in a three way tie for 9th were Blair MacPhail of Holland College, host Nick Peters, and Brian Affleck of the Brian Affleck Golf Academy.
