The Saint Mary’s Huskies lead the St. F.X. X-Women 44-35 at the half at the Atlantic University Sport basketball championships at UPEI.

Rachelle Cowards lead the Huskies with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-6 from behind the three-point line. Justine Colley and Angelina Carvery each added 12 points.

Kolbi Roper leads the X-Women with nine points and seven rebounds while Courtney Kilyk has eight points.

The Huskies led 24-22 after the first quarter.

Saint Mary’s hit 48.5 per cent of its 33 shots compared to St. F.X. connecting on 36 per cent of its 36 shots. The Huskies hit seven of their 18 three-point attempts (38.9 per cent) while the X-Women were 1-for-6 (16.7 per cent).

St. F.X. was 8-for-10 at the free-throw line while Saint Mary’s was 3-for-7 (42.9 per cent).

The winner will go to Windsor, Ont., for the nationals March 14 to 16.
