Panthers advance to AUS semifinal

The UPEI Panthers are going to the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s basketball semifinal.

The Panthers defeated the Cape Breton Capers 67-56 Friday in the quarter-final in front of a loud crowd at UPEI.

Fourth-year Panthers Amy Gough and Danielle MacDonald led the way with 26 and 16 points, respectively. Gough added 10 rebounds and six assists.

The Capers were led by Tanira McClurkin with 16 points.

The Panthers play the St. F.X. X-Women Saturday at 8:15 p.m. in semifinal play.

Dalhousie will play the undefeated Saint Mary’s Huskies at 6 p.m. in the other semifinal after defeating the Memorial Sea-Hawks 70-64 in Friday’s quarter-final.

The Panthers held quarter leads of 15-11, 34-27 and 51-41.

The final is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
