In May of 2012 Tom Nicholls was in a Halifax hospital fighting for his life after his stock car crashed at Scotia Speedworld just outside Halifax.

On Saturday, less than two years after the crash, Nicholls lifted 562 pounds during the Atlantic Winter Classic Raw powerlifting meet in Charlottetown.

Nicholls has not driven a stock car since the crash, but as soon as he was able he was back at his powerlifting workouts in his well-equipped gym in a converted garage behind his home in Sherwood.

His training is going well, he said in a short interview in the lifters' warm up area and the meet Saturday was his third since the accident. As to whether he will drive a racecar again he said he just does not know.

The event Saturday consisted of the winter classic in the afternoon and was just for powerlifting and the P.E.I Provincials Equipped ran in the morning.

Tom you are truly an "INSPIRATION" TO ANYONE WHO HAS OR IS IN YOUR POSITION. It just goes to show just what determination, will.and the courage to take the first step and tell yourself that i can do it! I don't know you well, but we have met. It is my daughter you know,Rhonda MacKay the barber from Ray's place. GREAT STORY AND I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN YOUR COMPETITIONS.. WIN OR LOST,YOU ARE THE WINNER IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE!
