Island Storm loses overtime contest with London Lightning

The London Lightning defeated the Island Storm 121-118 in overtime Saturday in a rematch of last year’s National Basketball League of Canada final.

Garrett Williamson with 36 points and Tony Bennett with 26 led the Lightning while Stephen McDowell added 20.

Antonio Ballard had 34 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Storm in front of 1,727 fans. He was one of seven Storm to hit double digits in scoring. The others were Al Stewart (16), Nick Okorie (14), Dwayne Smith (13), Jeremy Williams (12), Steve Tchiengang (11) and Adrian Moss (10). Stewart added nine assists as the Storm dropped to 11-11 while the Lightning improved to 17-6.

Each team shot 46.3 per cent from the floor. The Lightning was 44-for-95 while the Storm was 38-for-82. The Storm shot 41.4 per cent from behind the arc compared to the Lightning’s 32.4 and was better from the free-throw line at 78.9 per cent to 75.9.

The Storm led 29-26 after the first quarter, trailed 57-51 at the half and 88-81 going to the fourth quarter.

The Storm travels to Halifax (3-20) Sunday to play the Rainmen at 2 p.m.
