The Island Storm has traded veteran Greg Plummer to the Mississauga Power for all-star guard Nick Okorie.

The Storm also send a third-round pick to Mississauga in the deal announced Friday.

“Nick is one of the most explosive scorers in the NBL. The opportunity came up to bring him in, and we felt it was a move we had to make,” said Storm head coach Joe Salerno.

The Houston, Texas, native played at Division 1 Texas Tech University. During his two-year career in the NBL, he has averaged more than 18.5 points per game while shooting 46 per cent from the floor and 40 per cent from the three-point line.

He is eighth in league scoring this year at nearly 18 points per game while shooting 44 per cent from the floor.

"We have been struggling as of late to score on a consistent basis,” Salerno said. “We feel Nick will bring that scoring punch night in and night out that we seem to be lacking. Not only can he flat out shoot the basketball, he has the ability to create his own shot, get to the rim, and make the right decisions.”

Plummer averaged 16 points per game during his Storm career and was averaging 14 this season, good for 20th in league scoring.

“We appreciate everything Greg has done for this team and organization over the last season and a half, and wish him all the best with Mississauga. The Power also just received a very good player,” Salerno said.

The trade ends a busy week for the Storm. They signed six-foot-11 centre Phil Jones and six-foot-seven shooting forward Ed Jones.

The Storm hosts the London at Eastlink Centre Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Lightning’s first visit to P.E.I. after the two teams met in the NBL Championship Finals last season.

Saturday’s game is P.E.I. Minor Basketball Night where each minor basketball player on P.E.I. who wears his jersey to the game accompanied by an adult will receive a ticket to the game compliments of Prebilt Steel.
