MacDonald nets pair in Maniacs' IJHL win over Vipers

MONTAGUE — The Montague Maniacs have pulled to within five points of the first-place Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers in the Island Junior Hockey League.

Damon MacDonald scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Maniacs to a 6-4 home-ice win over the Vipers at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre on Friday night.

The second-place Maniacs improved to 12-5-1 and the Vipers dropped to 15-3-0.

Matt Cox (1-1), Cole MacLeod, Peter MacLeod and Matt Higgins also scored for Montague.

Kyle Doucette (2), Jordan Mayhew (1-2) and Jeremy Jollimore (1-1) countered for the Vipers.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and Montague led 4-2 following 40 minutes of action.

Winning goaltender was Tyler Whiffen.

Kensington will host the Holland College Hurricanes at Community Gardens on Sunday at

7 p.m.
