THUNDER BAY, ONT. — Lakehead University renewed the contract of men’s basketball team coach Scott Morrison through the 2016 season  Tuesday.

The university also added managerial duties to the Morell native’s job description.

“I am very happy to be signed on for another term as head coach of men's basketball at Lakehead University,” said Morrison.

“I have always been appreciative of this excellent opportunity and will continue to make whatever efforts possible to help us one day realize our ultimate goal of a national championship.”

Morrison took over the Lakehead program in 2003 and has led the Thunderwolves to the national Final 8 tournament for the past three seasons and an Ontario University Athletics title in 2011. He has won three straight OUA West coach of the year awards.

“Scott’s record of success speaks for itself,” said Lakehead athletic director Tom Warden. “He has made Lakehead a national contender and continues to be one of the best recruiters in the country. From a management perspective, Scott offers valuable skills we can add to our front office at Lakehead athletics.”
