The St. Thomas Tommies dropped the women's hockey Panthers 4-2 Sunday afternoon in Fredericton to send UPEI home with a split road weekend.
The loss came after UPEI's 3-2 overtime win against the Mount Allison Mounties in Sackville Saturday night and puts the Panthers' regular season record at 8-7.
The .500 weekend put the Panthers (16) in third-place of the AUS, sitting only one point ahead of the Mounties (15).
Panther Janelle MacKenzie opened up Sunday's game in UPEI's favour, scoring within the first five minutes.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't last, as STU replied back with three powerplay goals in less than seven minutes to lead 3-1. Goals were scored by Katie Brewster, Cassidy McTaggart and Kayla Blackmore.
UPEI's Jessie-Anne Howard scored the lone goal of the second period at 9:09.
St. Thomas kept UPEI out of the net during the third period to hold onto the lead. STU's Kayla Blackmore scored the lone goal of the third period at 14:28.
The women's hockey Panthers return to action next Saturday when the team faces Saint Mary's in Halifax. Game time is 2 p.m.
