UPEI Panthers’ Jonathan Cooper has been named the Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the period ending Nov. 13.
Cooper a fifth-year guard from Mississauga, Ont., averaged 24.5 points in a pair of season opening wins over the Saint Mary’s Huskies last weekend in Charlottetown.
In Saturday’s close 97-95 win over the Huskies, Cooper scored 19 points, including five three-pointers, grabbed six rebounds and added five assists and four steals.
In Sunday’s rematch, a 92-77 victory by the Panthers, he exploded for 30 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with three assists and three steals.
His 24.5 points-per-game scoring average and 3.5 steals per game currently lead the Atlantic conference.
The Panthers travel to St. John’s, N.L., this weekend to take on the Memorial Sea-Hawks.
Louise Facca of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s volleyball team was named the AUS female athlete of the week.
