Editor: Criticism of Israel poured in from around the globe in August as they killed over 2,000 Palestinians — 450 were children according to UNICEF.  Now we see Israel doing damage control around the globe. P.E.I. saw MP Irwin Cotler visit last month as an apologist for the Israel Defense Forces and this week Israeli Ambassador to Canada, Rafael Barak will visit Charlottetown.

We are left asking ourselves — how far will the IDF go if they felt justified to bomb a UN shelter housing women and children? The Island Peace Committee believes there were war crimes committed in Gaza last month which need investigation by the World Court.

A ceasefire is in place but today Israel claimed 400 hectares of land south of Bethlehem for yet more illegal settlements. What chance is there of a lasting peace with this type of aggression?

Palestine deserves to be independent and until this happens Palestine is an occupied country struggling to survive.

This Friday at 12:30 p.m. we will gather for the Silent Vigil at Province House with a special message for Mr. Barak — Free Palestine. Peace Now.

Father Phil Callaghan,

and Nouhad Mourad,

for Island Peace Committee
